Page Properties Web Part – SharePoint Online Microsoft Office 365

The addition of the Page Properties Web Part extends Modern Pages by allowing users to consume custom properties or metadata directly from the page information.

Recently, Microsoft added support for the ability to tag site pages with custom metadata. Prior to these new capabilities, users were unable to modify the “Site Pages” content type that powered these modern pages.

With the introduction of metadata to site pages, we started to empower our users to locate pages or news articles by searching for keywords or by using metadata based navigation via filtering. Prior to these capabilities, searching for documents was structurally based (i.e. using Folders) and often times made content difficult to find.

Key Features

Custom Properties – Define custom metadata for modern pages. In this example, we can see that we have created a multi-choice field called “Keywords”. As authors continue to publish news content, they now have the ability to tag and organize this content with Keywords. 

 

In scenarios where we have hundreds of news articles kept together in a flat structure, the keywords allow both authors and consumers to locate relevant content more easily. The ability to filter, sort, and group by these attributes may greatly increase productivity. 

 

Multiple Properties – The Page Properties webpart allows authors to display multiple properties on a page at one time. This webpart is scalable to meet organization needs as they define additional relevant properties. Each properties is displayed with a label and the properties associated value. 

 

Empty Valued Properties – When no value is provided for a given property, the webpart is cable of collapsing or hiding that region in order to eliminate white space.
