
Text Editor Web Part Overview
The Text Editor Web Part provides great functionality for publishing News and information to a SharePoint site. While functionality was limited with the original version, we now see support for rich text features. As News becomes more of a staple for publishing information across SharePoint Online, these features and tools can dramatically improve the overall user experience.
Content Authors now have the ability to manipulate format, structure, and style of text. Review the key features highlighted below and start publishing your own content.

Text Editor Web Part Key Features

Text Editing

- Editing Tools: Resources to use while working with the Text Editor
- Undo (CTRL+Z): Discard the latest edit.
- Redo (CTRL+Y): Return to the previous state after discarding an edit.
- Clear all formatting: Remove all styles applied to selected text.
- Font Formatting: Alter the formatting applied to text.
- Font Style: Predefined formats to apply to text (Normal, Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Quote)
- Font Size: Change the size of the select text ranging from 12px to 42px.
- Font Color: Choose from 10 standard or 10 theme based font colors.
- Highlight Color: Choose from 15 standard background colors for text.
- Transform: Alter the format of the text for more meaningful styling.
- Bold (CTRL+B): Increase the font weight of selected text.
- Italics (CTRL+I): Transform the angle of the text to highlight a quote or title.
- Underline: Create a bottom border for selected text.
- Strikethrough: Mark through the text to highlight changes or removals.
- Superscript: Raise the position of text relative to the base text.
- Subscript: Lower the position of text relative to the base text.
- Paragraph: Control the structural format of text.
- Left Justify: Text is left justified within the content block.
- Center Justify: Text is center justified within the content block.
- Right Justify: Text is right justified within the content block.
- Justify: Text is presented with straight edges along the margins.
- Indent Right: Indent text to the right one position.
- Indent Left: Indent text to the left one position.
- Bulleted List: Format text as unordered list.
- Numbered List: Format text as ordered list.
- Link: Create a hyperlink within the text. Determine the Address, Display, and Target behavior of the link.
Table Editing

- Table Styles: General table formats that may be applied based on a standard black or themed color:
- Plain: Simple solid border for all table cells.
- Subtle Header: Thick solid bottom border under the table header row.
- Header: Solid background fill color for header row.
- Alternating Rows: Solid background fill color for header row. Alternating colors for table rows.
- Column Header: Solid background fill color for header row. Alternating colors for table rows. Broad first column background color.
- Insert and Delete: Alter the number of rows and columns within the table:
- Insert Above: Insert row above line where cursor is present.
- Insert Below: Insert row below line where cursor is present.
- Insert Left: Insert column to the left of where the cursor is present.
- Insert Right: Insert column to the right of where the cursor is present.
- Delete Row: Delete the row where the cursor is present.
- Delete Column: Delete the column where the cursor is present.
- Delete Table: Delete the table where the cursor is present.
- Table Alignment: Determine the alignment of the table within the current block
- Align Table Left: Table is left justified within the content block.
- Align Table Center: Table is center justified within the content block.
- Align Table Right: Table is right justified within the content block.
Text Editor Web Part Limitations
- Markup Language: Users are unable to modify or provide content in the form of editable markup HTML. For example, providing “<h1>Heading</h1>” will appear as plain text with the markup included at the time of publishing.
- Scripts: Users are not able to insert scripts directly into the content area. All scripts will appear as plain text and will not execute at the time of publishing.
- Images: Users are not able to insert images directly within the text editor web part block. Users should instead leverage the Image Viewer Web Part.
- Video: Users are not able to embed videos within the web part block. Users should instead leverage the Office 365 Video, Stream, or Embed web parts.
